Huge congratulations to everyone who represented Norwood so wonderfully at the 2022 State Short Course Championships – whether it’s your first state champs, or you’re a veteran. There were so many incredible performances across the board, from our youngest competitors to our oldest. We hope you all achieved your goals and, most importantly, had fun. ❤️💙

We had so, so many PBs, finalists, medals, National Open times and state records. ❤️💙
Shout out to a Fergus McLachlan, who absolutely smashed the 18-year-old male 50 backstroke record this evening, dropping almost a second off his PB to record a time of 24.90. The previous record (25.74) was originally set in 2010, and then equalled in 2015.
Fergus continued his incredible form, breaking the 18-years 100 backstroke SAR record, set in 2010, and equalling the SAA record, with a time of 53.74. Then, went on to lower the 18-years 200 back SAA record by almost 3 seconds, and the SAR record by about 1.5 seconds. Nice work, Fergus!
Congratulations also to one of our newest members, Logan Rieck, who smashed the 13-years boys 100 backstroke SAA and SAR records. Logan’s time of 1:00.53 betters the SAA record of 1:01.93, set in 2013, and the SAR record of 1:01.00, set in 2016. Logan continued his impressive form, going on to claim Kyle Chalmers’ 13-years 100 fly SAA and SAR records. Well done, Logan!
While we’re on records, superstar Brooke Simpson lowered her own Open 400 freestyle S10 record by almost 3 seconds. Brooke went on to destroy her own Open MC 200 free record by almost 8 seconds, and added to her record tally on the final day by lowering the MC 50 free (S10). She declares she’s “never swimming it again”, but we reckon that performance deserves an encore! Amazing effort from a Norwood stalwart.
And Harrison Biddell adds yet another record to his name, lowering the boys’ 17-years 200 breast SAA record, set in 2012, by an incredible 1.5 seconds. Harrison went on to claim the SA record and SAA record in the 17-years 100 breaststroke.
Well done to everyone who managed to record a PB time, or earn a place in a final, and congratulations to our medal winners…

Massive thanks to Head Coach Luke and coaches Ed and Cam for leading the team over the four days of competition. Thanks, also, to our parents (and Team Captain Emma Sleath) who helped out as team managers, as well our many, many technical officials. None of our kids could do this sport without you.
